Strong second half performance sees Lann Leire claim victory

Lannleire made it two wins from two in the league following this well earned victory over Naomh Malachi at a cold and blustery Pairc Ui Mhuiri on Sunday.

Padraig Moley pointed inside the opening sixty seconds for Malachi’s but Ian Mulroy brought the home side level on four minutes.  On five minutes Lannleire mid fielder, Paul Callan cut in along the end line and fired a beautiful angled shot to the roof of Malachi’s net. Donal Begley then kicked a fine point for Naomh Malachi but Niall Lennon replied with a pointed free for Lannleire. Colin Murphy for Lannleire and Mark Meegan for Malachi’s converted frees and another converted free from Padraig Moley reduced Lannleire’s lead to two points. Lannleire responded with scores from Breen McGuinness and Donal Clare. Mark Meegan kicked two pointed frees for Naomh Malachi in between Colin Murphy converting from placed ball for Lannleire.

Lannleire stretched their lead to six points inside the opening five minutes of the second half, Colin Murphy (2) and Niall Lennon getting the scores. Lannleire keeper, Craig Devlin made a fine save to deny Naomh Malachi a goal and at the other end, Paul Callan, Colin Murphy and Alan Murphy extended Lannleire’s lead further. Both sides made a number of changes to personnel but Lannleire confirmed their dominance with a further couple of points from Niall Lennon and Gary Monaghan. In the final minute Naomh Malachi were awarded a penalty but Ronan Greene saw his spot kick saved by Craig Devlin in the Lannleire goal before Padraig Moley kicked a late consolation point for the visitors.
